π¨ E-Bike Safety Reminder β Stay Legal, Stay Seen, Stay Safe π¨ |
||
Tonight, in York, officers seized another illegal e-bike this time used by a food delivery rider. The bike had no working lights, was being ridden in heavy rain and darkness, and was operated using a throttle switch making it illegal for road use under UK law. As the nights draw in and weather conditions worsen, weβre urging all cyclists whether on traditional bikes or e-bikes to prioritise safety and legality: β Lights and visibility: Working front and rear lights are a legal requirement after dark. Reflective clothing and accessories help you be seen. β Know your e-bike: If your bike can be ridden without pedalling (via throttle or twist grip), it may be classed as a moped and require registration, insurance, and a licence. β Ride responsibly: Wet roads, poor visibility, and darker evenings increase the risk of accidents. Slow down, stay alert, and ride defensively. Weβre not here to spoil your commute or delivery shift weβre here to keep everyone safe. Illegal e-bikes pose a danger to riders and others, and we will continue to act where necessary. | ||
